RAFAEL OMAR BATISTA JORGE earned his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 2021. That same year, he completed his Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the International University of Valencia. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the Energy Management for Sustainable Development program at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo. His research interests include the application of intelligent systems for the control of electrical systems, the development of heuristic techniques for solving sequential decision-making problems, and the implementation of intelligent systems for the agricultural sector. He is the principal investigator of the FONDOCYT 2023 project entitled “Implementation of Machine Learning Models for the Automatic Analysis of Aerial Hyperspectral Images for the Characterization of the Operation of Photovoltaic Solar Panels.” In addition, he has participated as a co-investigator in several projects funded by national and international entities. Since 2021, he has served as a full-time professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, where he has focused on promoting synergy between academia and research through the development of capstone projects aligned with research interests within the university’s academic mission.
Abstract of the talk
This talk is going to focus on the development of an energy management system for networked microgrids based on multi-objective mixed variable particle swarm optimization. The proposed strategy coordinates microgrid interconnection, generation dispatch, and load curtailment while accounting for cost, technical losses, resilience, and critical load prioritization. Using a benchmark networked microgrid model and six operating scenarios, the results demonstrate adaptive system reconfiguration and significant operating cost reductions of up to 87% under constrained conditions. The work shows that the proposed EMS is a promising tertiary control solution for resilient and flexible networked microgrid operation.
